UNFORTUNATELY, THIS 2 PACK OF TOMMEE TIPPEE GROBAG’S ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE. YOU CAN STILL BUY THE GROBAG’S INDIVIDUALLY IN A WIDE RANGE OF DESIGNS AT JOHN LEWIS HERE.

For me, grobags have been the ‘go to’ bedding’ for both of my children from babies up until almost 2 years old when they were ready for their toddler beds. They are Little ones equivalent to a duvet, as duvets are not recommended for children under 12 months old.  As it is so important that all babies and children do not overheat when sleeping, by using the different tog sleeping bags at different temperatures, these have given me piece of mind that they will sleep contently and safely in their cot.  If you aren’t familiar with the ‘grobag’, it is a brand of baby and toddler sleeping bag which buttons up at the shoulders and if the appropriate size is used, means your child is kept warm at night, without the risk of overheating or suffocation.

As my son, was premature it took a little while for him to be able to use his – babies must be over 4kg before they use one – but when he did, I felt so much more relaxed while he and his sister slept.  They never got too hot or too cold and as my son, particularly, got older, it was a bonus that he couldn’t climb out of his cot either!

Made with a soft 100% cotton cover and polyester filling the grobags feel well made.  This 2 pack comes with one stripey gro bag and one with stars on which are pretty neutral.   I did try a few cheaper equivalent sleeping bags for my daughter including a velour touch one from Mothercare, which looked pretty but I found that none of them washed as well as the grobag.

This 2 pack of grobags are suitable to use all year round as they offer 2.5 tog thermal insulation but I always check my kid’s room temperature with the handy thermometer provided with the grobags to make sure that it is the ideal 16-20 degrees before using these sleeping bags.  You can also buy grobags in 3 other tog’s depending on the time of year / temperature in your house.  The manufacturer recommends using the different togs as follows:

  • 3.5 tog, Cold temperatures – for cold room temperatures of 12-15°C (54-59°F)
  • 2.5 tog, All year round – for standard room temperatures of 16-20°C (61-68°F)
  • 1.0 tog, Summer and daytime naps – warmer weather and in rooms of 21-23°C (69-74°F)
  • 0.5 tog, Holiday and heatwaves – hot weather and very warm rooms of 24-27°C (75-81°F)

I did also buy a 1 tog grobag for the summer but generally managed with the 2.5 tog by altering our heating when needed.

This 2 pack of grobags, available at John Lewis, offer slightly better value than buying them individually and it is really handy to have more than one so you don’t have to be continuously washing.  At £47.50 for 2 sleeping bags, these do seem a lot of money, especially as you may get only 3-6months use out of them if your child grows quickly.  However, for me, it was money well spent as I felt they slept well and were safe.

Please remember it is not recommended that any child under 12 months old uses a duvet, quilt or pillow.  For further advice on creating a safe sleep environment for your baby, please refer to the The Lullaby Trust
