For me a silk duvet is pure luxury.  For many years, friends who have travelled to the far east have raved about the beautiful silk duvets they have experienced in luxury hotels and so I was thrilled to find a 100% mulberry silk filled duvet for £170 (for a King size) at John Lewis.  This duvet doesn’t look much at first as it is relatively thin and lightweight.  It folds up quite small but once shaken and on the bed, the duvet is lovely and surprisingly warm.  Silk, as a natural product, offers many of the benefits you will find with wool.  It is breathable, temperature-regulating and naturally hypoallergenic. I was therefore not convinced that the 6-7 tog would only be warm enough for the Spring / Summer as recommended.  Personally, I think it would work for most people all year round and if you find it too warm, the lighter 3-4 tog could be purchased for the warmest months.

The 100% cotton sateen cover is smooth and soft, ensuring the duvet drapes well.  What you gain in smooth and silky, you lose with fluffiness.  Silk is not the option for you if you like a big, fluffy duvet like down or synthetic ones.

I really like this duvet, it feels special, however,  the big issue I have is the ease of care.  It is recommended as spot clean only.  No more cups of tea in bed and although the duvet cover will soak up the cat’s footprints, don’t think about putting one of these duvets on a child’s bed.

One of the best duvet choices for temperature regulation – keeping you cool or warm throughout the year.  A great purchase if you’re careful with it.
